One more comment, regarding filimOtsavam. I would bet it came from Hindi (filmOtsav). Now, I have no clue what sandhi rules are followed in Hindi, but somehow filmOtsav sounds OK to me.

(sorry for posting in English; my Malayalam input is not good enough yet. and unfortunately, nor is my transliteration.)

Regarding “paddhathi” + “itharam,” I recall seeing “paddhathyEtharam” (note that it’s not “paddhathiyitharam” nor (the incorrect) “paddhathiyEtharam”). Is there any sandhi rule that can give this? Like, can we have “paddhath~ + ya + itharam = paddhathyEtharam?” (”i pOyi, ya vannu.”) Somehow that sounds better than the result of the sansk^rtha sandhi, viz. “paddhathItharam.”
